Getting Home Safely, South Street Square, Worthing

Saturday 19th November 2016, 12 noon till 4.00pm

Following its success last year the Adur & Worthing Safer Communities Partnership, working with the Late Night Partnership, are staging their second Getting Home Safely event, free for the public at South Street Square in Worthing this coming Saturday (19th November).

The Getting Home Safely event support supports Alcohol Concern’s Alcohol Awareness Week and once again aims to encourage the public to plan for their evenings out, to get home safely as well as to make appropriate decisions about their own levels of drinking, especially as they approach the Christmas party season.

There will be a range of awareness raising activities during the course of the afternoon and experts on hand to offer advice and guidance on staying out and staying safe.

Also in attendance will be Councillor Daniel Humphreys, Leader of Worthing Council who adds; “This event proved to be very popular last year and  I am glad we have got behind it again.  We attracted big crowds last time but there is still a need to get the message out - again and again. Don’t drink too much; make sure you can stay in contact with friends and always have an agreed plan (and the money) to get home safely.

Worthing has a lot on offer at night, theatres, cinemas, bars, pubs and clubs.  We welcome everyone who wants to go into town and enjoy themselves - we also want them to get home safely too.”

Safer Communities Partnership, West Sussex Fire Service, Community Speed Watch, Alcohol Liaison Nurse, Worthing Street Pastors, Water Angels, One Club and Neighbourhood Watch will be present.

Getting Home Safely marks the end of the National Alcohol Awareness Week who offer the following advice.

·  Always plan your journey home, either by car, bus, taxi, train, cycling or walking.

·  Be aware of your own vulnerability when drunk and how alcohol affects you.

·  Stay with friends

·  Nominate a driver to stay sober

·  Pre book a taxi

·  Don’t drive the next day

·  Cyclists – light up to be seen at night
