Most successful Apprenticeship Fair yet

More people than ever before attended Adur & Worthing Apprenticeship Fair.

Over 250 people came to Northbrook MET in Broadwater to find out about apprenticeships and meet businesses, training providers, employers, universities and colleges.

The event, which also attracted 35 exhibitors, was run by West Sussex County Council and Adur & Worthing Business Partnership (AWBP), and was aimed at all ages as well as those who are just starting a career, thinking of retraining or returning to work. Plans are already being made for next year’s event at Worthing College in July 2018.

Andrew Swayne, Chair of the AWBP, said:

I was delighted to see the wide range of apprenticeship opportunities on offer locally which is a great indication of the strength and diversity of the economy in Adur and Worthing. The event worked really well and has become an worthy addition to the range of high quality events supported by the Business Partnership.

Lucy Bodrell, HR Advisor for local company,  Rossetts Commercials Mercedes-Benz Commercial Vehicle dealership found the Fair on July 4 extremely worthwhile:

“Our reason for exhibiting was to find some potential recruits for our Apprenticeship Scheme for our 2019 intake. We currently have apprentices through Northbrook MET and we wish to build our relationship with the local colleges.

“We recruit on an ongoing basis and hope to recruit one apprentice per site per year, including our head office in Worthing.

“We met some really enthusiastic students who have a passion for cars and the motor industry. It was a fantastic opportunity to meet the parents too.

“Potentially, we feel that we will be a able to successfully recruit a student for our 2019 in take next year. Also, we have offered work experience to students who wish to organise this through the school.

Organiser of this year’s Fair, Angela Crane, Economy & Skills Officer, Adur & Worthing Councils said “ One of the additions to this year’s fair included on-hand Careers Advice by local qualified Careers Advisors from West Sussex County Council’s Post 16 Team.  They worked tirelessly through the event, indicating the importance of providing quality careers guidance alongside information events such as this.”

Adur & Worthing Councils, in collaboration with West Sussex County Council and Coast 2 Capital, are pleased to be supporting a number of upcoming events, supporting the education and skills agenda locally.

September 2018 will see the launch of a spectacular Adur & Worthing wide Careers Fair at the Assembly Hall, open to business, residents and training providers.
