Adur & Worthing Business Awards

Welcome to the Adur & Worthing Business Awards 2016. The Adur & Worthing Business Awards celebrate business excellence within the circulation of the Worthing Herald newspaper.

These business awards are in their 6th year and are organised by JP South Events. Johnston Publishing are dedicated to recognising, rewarding and celebrating local businesses. Any type of business within the Adur & Worthing area can enter by self nomination or by being nominated by another business.

We are delighted to welcome ETI as the headline sponsor. ETI are keen to supporter local businesses and feel that the awards are a great platform to recognise, reward and celebrate all the successful businesses and professional individuals.

The awards ceremony will take place on Friday, November 11th 2016 at the Pavilion Worthing and will be presented by Nick Wallis BBC One Show presenter and Channel 5 reporter. Ticket price includes reception drink, three course meal with wine, DJ. The evening will begin at 6.30pm, followed by the awards ceremony and after party. Carriages are at midnight. Dress code is black tie.

There are award categories to suit every kind of business from Start-Up to Large Business, Young Achiever to Lifetime Achievement and Manufacturing to Hospitality. An expert panel of judges from the world of local business will through all the entries and choose the winners.

Entries can be submitted from July 28th and winners will be announced at the glittering awards ceremony on the 11th November 2016.

There are 20 categories to be won this year including ‘Overall Business’, which will be the Judges choice. The ‘Readers Choice’ category will be chosen by the readers of Worthing Herald series.

Start-Up – Sponsored by ADUR & WORTHING COUNCILS
Identifying businesses started after August 1, 2014 who have already had successes that they want to share, the judges will be looking for a new company which has caught the imagination of the local community in Adur and Worthing.

Small Business (up to 9 employees) – Sponsored by ADUR & WORTHING BUSINESS PARTNERSHIP
For this category, the judges will be looking for a business with up to 9 employees capable of producing a quality product whilst remaining committed to great client/customer service, as well as demonstrating innovation and marketing acumen.

Medium Business (10 to 49 employees) – Sponsored by BENNETT GRIFFIN
The winner of this category will be at the forefront of business development in the Adur and Worthing area, and will demonstrate an innovative ability to identify market opportunities or will be looking to expand.

Large Business (50+ employees) – Sponsored by WORTHING PIER SOUTHERN PAVILION
Although based in Adur and Worthing, entrants to the Large Business category may have a local, regional, national or international market. Judges are looking for a company which can demonstrate their contribution to the local area through enhancing the town’s business reputation.

Overall Business of the Year – Sponsored by SPOFFORTHS CHARTERED ACCOUNTANTS
In this category, the judges select a business or individual who have won a previous category and will have demonstrated outstanding achievement in their field.

Business Personality – Sponsored by The MARTLET PARTNERSHIP
The judges are looking for someone who can demonstrate that their unswerving commitment, business acumen, and approach to the challenges presented by the business world has impacted upon their business’s success.

Highlighting the contributions to business in Adur and Worthing made by people aged under 28, this award will identify young workers who have made their mark locally as either an entrepreneur or within a company. The judges will be looking for enthusiasm, commitment, and the ability to demonstrate results.

The winners of this award will demonstrate a creative and dedicated approach to customer service, and will be able to demonstrate to the judges that going that extra mile for customers is integral to positive business.

Hospitality, Tourism and Leisure – Sponsored by VIP VENUES BY KEN MARCHE
Hotels, attractions and events in Adur and Worthing all help to project a great district image. We live and work in a fantastic holiday destination, and the winner of this category will be able to demonstrate a contribution to the local area by making the community stand out.

Employer of the Year
An award for a business that has great staff relations, good staff retention, with excellent training and who cares for their employees. The best company to work for!

Employee/Team of the Year
An award for an exceptional individual/team whose efforts and determination has made an exceptional contribution to a business resulting in a positive gain for the organisation.

Innovation
An ability to navigate market conditions is crucial for a business to survive today’s difficult economic conditions. How has your business adapted to change, or utilized an innovative idea in order to be a successful business?

Training & Development
Employee development is intrinsic to business success, and the winner of this category will have demonstrated a commitment to encouraging and motivating their workforce. Judges are looking for training providers as well as businesses which have an exemplary training programme for their employees.

Green Business
The most common ways to show good environmental and sustainability practice are improving energy efficiency, reducing waste, reducing water use, reducing pollution, improving the environment or improving employees’ well-being. Others could be reducing the amount of car journeys.

Outstanding Contribution to the Community
Businesses play a significant role in the community, and many firms consider it important to contribute to their local supporters through charity work and helping schools, colleges and community groups. This award aims to recognise local businesses who have taken the time to give something back.

Retailer
Retailing is an essential facet of the British business world, and for this category, judges will be looking for businesses who can demonstrate a creative edge and a committed approach to customer service.

Place to Eat and/or Drink – Sponsored by ELECTRONIC TEMPERATURE INSTRUMENTS LTD
This category encourages entrants from restaurants, hotels, pubs that offers consistently high quality food and drink in an enjoyable atmosphere.

Reader’s Choice
This is the only award that the judges have no control over. All the nominated businesses will be listed in the Herald, and readers will be invited to vote for their favourite. This award will demonstrate that the business in question has impacted upon and impressed the public.
