Press Release - Get It Noticed
Worthing and Adur Chamber of Commerce welcomed widely commissioned national journalist Ann Bird of
AB Business Training. Ann’s experience writing for newspapers from The Sun to The Telegraph was shared with us at the Chamber Chat held at Sussex Yacht Club on November 4th.
What makes a good Press Release?
Most journalists get hundreds of Press Releases a day so a headline has to really grab their attention in a few short seconds The opening paragraph is key, remember: ‘5 bums in a bed’: w w w w w: who, what, where, why, when. You should then utilise the content for more details. Think of yourself as writing a news story, how does it read to you? Is it topical, is it a feel good story? Can you use good photographs or illustrations?
There are a few ‘Golden Rules’ to remember:
• Consider your Audience
• Keep the headline short and catchy – subject, descriptive word, object i.e Chelsea Win Cup
• Keep it in the present tense
The mini workshop was followed by a question and answer session with so much enthusiasm from the audience it could have continued for many hours!!! We would have loved to have heard some of Anne’s experiences and stories but time wouldn’t allow.
