Celebrating 100 years with over 100 attendance at our latest AGM
The 2012 Worthing & Adur Chamber of Commerce AGM took place on Tuesday 17th April and welcomed another record breaker with over 100 bookings. Held at the Dome members and guests enjoyed a complimentary High Tea supported by The Dome Vintage Tearooms along with another enjoyable and inspirational talk from the Chamber’s Patron Gill Fielding.
Beginning with a networking session the evening then proceeded with a welcome from Chamber President Peter Bennett giving an overview of the busy and challenging year for Worthing and Adur Chamber. 2012 sees the Chamber launch into their 100th year. The membership group strategy is to recruit 100 new members for our centenary year, a challenge for all members to encourage new members to our vibrant and dynamic Chamber. The Chamber also welcomed the launch of the Youth Chamber tis year, an inspiring group already packed with bright ideas. Peter Bennett continued to thank Tina Tilley and Tracie Davey for their hard work. Peter commented “The success of the Chamber is buoyed by the sheer energy of our Chief Executive, Tina Tilley, who invests a massive number of hours. She is constantly bubbly, enthusiastic and the best Chief Executive we can have.”
The formalities followed with the election of Peter Bennett to continue his presidential duties for another year which as always is served with great enthusiasm. The 2012 – 2013 Chamber Executive Committee was also elected with existing members Karen Simporis, Alastair Vickers, Ian Vickers, Mark Landon, Tony Hedger, Tony Candler and Julian Cioffi agreeing to serve in the forthcoming year. New members Helen Scott & Sheryl Tipton were also welcomed on board.
The focal point of the evening was once again the inspiring talk from our Patron Gillian Fielding whose sustained support expertise and energy is superb.
‘Planning doesn’t always work’ Are we planning to fail?
Failure is however, a fundamental part of business growth, failure isn’t failure, it is trial and error. Business success is full of the bits that failed and got discarded. Concentrate on finding one point of difference for your company, focus on you and your customer. There are no boundaries adapt your business for you and your customer as you go through your journey, and remember it always come out alright in the end, and if it’s not alright it’s not the end!
Gillian also asked us all to support her “money mum” project. Gillian is passionate that the National Curriculum should include children being taught the ‘financial 5 a day’ Please sign up to the CAMPAIGN FOR CASH COMMON SENSE which Gillian will present to ‘our Dave’ (the Prime Minister to you and I.) Please visit Gillian’s website and show your support www.fieldingfinancialfamily.com/moneymum.php
The evening concluded with a wine tasting session hosted by Neil Libby of Vin-Ed , wines selected from Hennings Wine Merchants, where a group tasted wines from across the world and were asked to guess the country of origination. Neil then launched the Chamber’s very own WACCI 100, Centenary Cocktail which, of course for those who know Tina Tilley well, HAD to contain a fair amount of purple! We will be using this for high days, holidays and Charity events.
Thank you to all the guests who made this event such a success, the Chamber looks forward to sharing a busy and successful year celebrating our 100 year anniversary.
